2009 Sees Record Number of LSAT Test-Takers

If current trends are any indication, those prospective law school applicants taking the upcoming Dec. 5 LSAT exam should expect crowded test centers.

As revealed in the Most Strongly Supported Blog, a record number of 60,746 test-takers sat for the LSAT exam this past September, up from 50,721 last autumn.  A record number of 32,595 also took the June exam iteration five months ago.

Certainly, these figures are in large part due to the economic recession.  Examining a chart within the article, the numbers of test-takers increased 18.6%, 23.5% and 26.3%, respectively, over prior year figures for the three LSAT exams in 2001, which was the trough of the United States’ last recession.

Digesting this data, the post looks at changes for law firms, law schools and law applicants as a result of the year’s economic climate and heightened application competition, suggesting that current applicants be more certain of law school and more flexible with regard to their future legal careers.
